Banana Cake with Topping

Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

1 cup sugar
½ cup shortening (not oil)
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup mashed bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups flour
1 cup sour cream

Instructions

Mix together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and mix. Sift together dry ingredients. Mix together all ingredients. Grease square 9 X 9 baking dish. Bake at 350° for 35 or 45 minutes. If desired, add topping (before baking) Topping: ¼ cup brown sugar ½ teaspoon cinnamon ¼ cup chopped nuts 1 tablespoon flour small amount of shortening Mix together all ingredients and crumble on top of cake before baking. Use a toothpick to test for doneness, cake should be dry.
