Batter Coffee Cake

Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

1 cup scalded milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
½ teaspoon salt
1 package yeast
¼ cup warm water
1 egg
3 cups flour (about)
½ cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

Dissolve yeast in warm water with 1 teaspoon sugar; set aside. Add sugar, butter and salt to scalded milk; stir to dissolve. When lukewarm, add dissolved yeast and egg; beat well. Add flour to make stiff batter. (If using raisins, add after second cup of flour). Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Cut down, spread in greased 9 X 12 pan (or two 9 inch round pans). Top with streusel, let rise until double. Place in reheated 400° oven and reduce heat to 350°. Bake about 40 minutes. For Apple Kuchen: Brush dough with melted butter, place raw peeled apple sections in rows; and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
