Bavarian Beef

Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

2 to 3 lbs. Stew, beef, cut into 2 inch cubes
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 medium onion, sliced 
¾ teaspoon caraway seeds
1 bay leaf
1 cup water
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
¼ cup vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
½ small head cabbage, cut into wedges
¼ cup crushed gingersnaps

Instructions

In heavy pan, brown meat in hot oil. Add water, onion, salt, caraway, pepper and bay leaf. Cover and simmer 1 ¼ hours. Add vinegar and sugar, put cabbage on top. Cover and simmer 45 minutes or until tender. Remove meat and cabbage to platter, remove bay leaf. Add gingersnaps to liquid. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Serve over meat.
