Cheese Pastry (Turnovers & Crescents)

Recipe Ingredients

1 cup sifted flour
½ teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter
2 3-ounce packages cream cheese
preserves

Instructions

Mix flour and salt. Work in butter and cheese. Roll dough thin and cut into 5 inch squares. Place a spoonful of preserves on each square. Fold over to form a triangle. Press edges together and prick tops with a fork. Bake in a 425° oven until delicately brown. Cool before serving. Makes 8 turnovers. Variation: Mix ½ cup raspberry preserves with ½ cup chopped nuts and 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut into triangles; place small amount of filling on wide end; rol up, starting at wide end and shape into crescents. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.
