Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

1 cup finely chopped pitted dates
½ cup water
1 egg
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup margarine
¼ cup milk
1 ½ cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
½ cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Combine dates with water, bring to boil. Simmer 5 minutes and set aside 2 tablespoons mixture for frosting. Beat n egg, sugar, margarine and milk. Stir together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add to egg mixture. Stir in nuts. Drop from teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Frost with date frosting; beat together 3 tablespoons soft butter, 1 ½ cups sifted confectioners powdered sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla and reserved dates. Add enough milk to make spreadable. Dab on top of each cookie. Makes 3 dozen.
