Dill Pickles

Recipe Ingredients
3 bay leaves
4 cloves garlic, sliced
½ teaspoon whole black peppercorns
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
pickling cucumbers to fill ½ gallon jar
1 quart cold water
¼ cup kosher salt
dill – 1 sprig
slice of rye bread
Instructions
Place half of spices and sprig of dill in bottom of clean ½ gallon jar. Pack washed cukes in tightly in upright position. Add remaining spices and more dill. Pour over water which has been mixed with kosher salt. Add slice of rye bread. Cover tightly and test in four days. Place plate under jar to catch leaks.
