Heavenly Blueberry Cake

1 ½ cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup milk
2 eggs, separated
1 ½ cups fresh blueberries
1 cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
Beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside. Cream shortening with sugar and add well-beaten egg yolks. Add dry ingredients (which have bee sifted together) alternately with milk. Fold in egg whites and vanilla. Add blueberries which have been lightly floured. Sprinkle batter lightly with sugar before baking for a crispy topping. Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
