Recipe Ingredients
½ cup butter
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 square baking chocolate, melted
Instructions
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add gradually. Divide dough in two parts. To one part, add chocolate and blend. Chill until firm enough to roll.
Roll each half between sheets of waxed paper into rectangular sheet 1/8 inch thick. Peel off top layer of waxed paper and flip plain sheet onto chocolate sheet; peel waxed paper off plain sheet. Roll up as for jelly roll; wrap and chill overnight or until firm enough to slice. Slice thinly (no more than ¼ inch). Bake on ungreased baking sheets at 400° for 5 minutes, or until done. Makes about 4 dozen cookies. Not: Dough can be formed in checkerboard patter, ribbon, etc.
