Sponge Cake

Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

6 eggs, separated
1 ½ cups sugar
1 ½ cups sifted cake flour
½ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored. Beat in sugar gradually. Sift dry ingredients, add alternately with water to egg and sugar mixture. Add vanilla. Whip egg whites until foamy, add baking powder and continue whipping until stiff peaks are formed. Fold into yolk mixture. Pour into an ungreased large tube pan. Bake at 325° for 50 to 60 minutes. Invert to cool.
