Sukiyaki

Recipe Description

Recipe Ingredients

4 tablespoons oil
2 lbs steak, cut into strips
½ bouillon cube, dissolved in ½ cup boiling water
½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup sugar
1 tablespoon sherry
3 onions, sliced thin
1 cup sliced celery
1 cup sliced bamboo shoots
½ lb. Mushrooms, sliced thin
1 cup shredded spinach
4 scallions, sliced
1 lb. Vermicelli, boiled and drained

Instructions

Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add the meat and brown on all sides. Combine the stock, soy sauce, sugar and sherry in a bowl. Add half of this mixture to the meat, reserving the balance. Push the meat to one side of the frying pan. Add the onions and celery and cook over low heat for 3 minutes. Add the remaining stock mixture, bamboo shoots, mushrooms and spinach. Cook over low heat for 3 minutes. Add the scallions and cook for 1 minute. place the vermicelli on one side of the platter and the sukiyaki on the other. Serves 4. rice may be used in place of vermicelli. Optional: add 1 can bean sprouts, drained, when adding bamboo shoots.
