Thick Split Pea Soup

Recipe Ingredients
1 cup dried green split peas
4 cups water
1 chopped onion
2 chopped carrots
3 celery tops
1 bay leaf
2 teaspoons salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
Instructions
Wash peas with cold water and drain. Place in large saucepan, add water and bring to a boil. Add remaining ingredients, reduce heat to lowest temperature and cook for 1 ½ hours, covered. Remove cover and mash peas with a fork. Adjust seasoning to taste.
